Becoming a Christ-Follower

God's story. Your story.

God’s story is a story of restoration as He calls each of us from our rebellion, back to Himself. It is a beautiful story of majesty, grace, and the perfect love of the Father for His children. Have you taken the time to know God’s story?

God created a world that was perfect and good, and He created you and I to enjoy the world with him in beautiful fellowship – all for His glory. Fellowship however, was broken through man’s disobedience and his desire to be like God. Our hearts became sinful and this beautiful world was never the same.

Enter Jesus. The wrath that you and I were to experience because of our sin was placed on Jesus, who came to the earth and lived a sinless life and gave himself as a sacrifice on the cross. Jesus paid the price that you and I owed for our sin. In the darkest moment in history, God took our sin and placed it on Jesus, and he took the goodness of Jesus and gave it to us.

Because of Jesus, our fellowship with God can be restored. God’s invitation to us is a relationship with Him through His son, Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.” The relationship that was broken has been restored.

God is inviting you to be a part of His story. Our prayer is that you respond to God’s invitation – that you acknowledge your rebellion, and place your faith in Jesus to save and restore you.

Following Christ.

Following Christ

  • You realize you've put other things before God and now you want Him to be the center of your life. Admit that God has not been first or even evident in your life. (Mark 6:12)
  • Sin is anything we do apart from God’s way. He made us and knows how we function best but we naturally want to live life our own way. As a result we are separated from God and need His forgiveness to know Him and become a part of His family. Ask God to forgive you of your sins. (1 John 1:9)
  • Embrace the idea that Jesus paid your debt to God for you. Acknowledge that Jesus died for your sins, rose again and is alive today. (Romans 10:9)
  • God would never force us to love Him so He asks us to make the decision, to choose Christ. When you do that He comes into your life and begins to help you grow in your faith. You have His power available to live life, to think differently and to become more like Christ as you grow. Accept the free gift of Salvation and invite Jesus into your life. (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12)

Here's a suggested prayer...

Jesus, Thank you for creating me and loving me, even when I've turned from you and put other things before you. I realize I need you in my life and I confess my sins to you. I ask for your forgiveness and I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave. Thank you for dying for me. Help me to understand this truth more and more each day. I want to turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Savior. I commit my life to you right now. Please come into my life and make me a new person. I accept your gift of salvation. Help me to grow as a Christ-follower. In Jesus Name, Amen.

If you made this commitment to God, the Bible says...

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13

Welcome to the family of God!

Growing in Christ

  • Spend time each day with God in prayer and reading the Bible. Start with the Gospels in the book of John. If you don't have a Bible, we'll get one for you!

  • Not sure how to pray? Here's a suggested acronym for your prayer time: A.C.T.S.

    • A - Adoration, praise God.
    • C - Confession, admit it when you sin again. You won’t be perfect.
    • T - Thanksgiving, be sure to thank Him often for His many blessings to you.
    • S – Supplication, ask God for what you need.
  • Get involved in community. Attend weekend worship, join a small group and start serving. God created us for relationships. We need them in order to become all He's created us to be.

  • Get baptized. This is an act of obedience for believers.
