Who We Serve - Eagle’s Nest
Nido Del Aguila (Eagle's Nest) is perched high on a hill above the village of Solola in the western highlands of Guatemala. As you look out from this place, you see Lake Atitlan and beautiful volcanoes. God's beauty surrounds Eagle's Nest - flowers bloom, birds call out, farmers work in the fields below, and the smell of cooking is in the air. Yet more than half the population of Guatemala lives below the poverty line and more than 370,000 children are orphans with countless more at-risk. Only 3 of 10 children graduate from 6th grade and only 1 of 20 enter high school. Thousands of teenagers end up as homeless street kids and due to poverty and the intense struggle that daily life presents, many children are malnourished, neglected and abandoned.
Eagle's Nest was built in 2004. It was originally designed as a home for babies who would be adopted but in 2008 all adoptions in Guatemala were closed and Eagle's Nest became a home of safety and restoration for abused and abandoned children of all ages. It's a safe place where children's lives are transformed from painful, broken stories into powerful stories of healing and hope. It is a place where kids are given safe shelter, food, clothing, and an education. It is also a place where they are loved deeply and taught about God's plan for their lives.
Since 2008, Eagle's Nest has initiated a number of new programs and ministries to address the needs of the children who live with them as well as the needs of the families in the village surrounding their facility. They currently operate the Eagle's Nest children's home, the New Day School, and a feeding program called Manna. They also started a church on their property for the community and they organize sports programs for area youth. Eagle's Nest and the people who work there have truly embraced the community in which they live, working beyond their walls to care for a village.
ACF has partnered with Eagle's Nest for several years. We invest in their leaders, the children in their care, and the community they serve by providing monthly support and ongoing mission teams. One of the ways you can help is by sponsoring a child at the home or by providing a scholarship for children in the community to get an education.
